Bank Statement Requirements for Visa Applications

Embassies do not publish one fixed balance. They compare your funds with the cost of the trip, your income and your history. A bank statement that is stamped, consistent and explainable matters more than a single high number.

What a good statement looks like

  • Official bank-stamped statement covering the last 3 to 6 months (as the embassy requires).
  • Regular salary or business credits that match your job letter or tax records.
  • An account maintenance certificate or balance certificate where requested.
  • Consistent balance — no sudden unexplained deposits right before applying.

How to estimate the funds you need

Add up airfare, accommodation and a daily living budget for the number of days you plan to stay, then show a comfortable margin above that amount. Consulates consider embassy fee, insurance and your family responsibilities too.

Red flags

  • Large cash deposits with no source.
  • Statements that stop weeks before the application date.
  • Different names or account details across documents.

FAQs

Is a joint account acceptable?

Often yes, but you should add a sponsorship or relationship document and show your own income sources.

Should I use a savings account or a current account?

Either is accepted; what matters is that it shows your real financial activity.
